Church of San Pietro in Barni

Excursions Alpe di Megna

The Church of S. Pietro in Barni, located not far from the historic center, next to the cemetery, is considered one of the oldest churches in Valassina. Probably built by the Benedictine monks of the Monastery of Civate in the eleventh century (as evidenced by the soaring bell tower and the semicircular apse of exquisite Romanesque forms), it features fifteenth-century frescoes in the apse, while on the left wall is a rare (unusual for the area,) image of S. Lucio, protector of the cheese makers.
